A One Day Food-Hunting Trip

Penang is an island filled with fun going activities, places to visit and historical sites to visit. But, as for my concerned, I am more into the FOOD's of Penang, because Penang is one of the places with has the most varieties of choice in foods and also a lot of must-try food in Penang.

This idea was actually a starting plan from me and my friends, because we all love to hang out and also especially going to to try different food at different places. From there, the idea of having A One Day Food-Hunting Trip in Penang emerge and formed into a solid plan.

1. Toh Soon Café

To non Penangites, Toh Soon Cafe is a small coffee shop situated at a back lane along Campbell Street that serves a varity of bread and toasts, homemade Hainan coffee and nasi lemak. Before the 'invasion' of Oldtown Kopitam, Starbucks, Coffee Bean, Station 1 and others, Toh Soon was 'THE' place in town for coffee.

Any set of toast or bread with 2 half boiled eggs and a cup of coffee is somewhere around RM3.80 to RM4, a reasonable price if you ask me. The uniqueness of Toh Soon’s toasts is the preparation method by using a super old charcoal stove. In Penang you could probably see this kind of stove at Toh Soon only, partly because it is modified from an oil drum.

The Hainanese coffee (RM1.70 for besar – large, RM$1.40 for kecil – small) was well-brewed, smooth, and fragrant, making it an irresistible cup of nostalgic tasting goodness.

2. Roti Canai, Transfer Road

Roti Canai are one of the landmarks on Transfer Road. Early in the morning, their stalls are already crowded with people buying and queuing up for their breakfast at the side of the road. Plain Roti Canai with Chicken Curry (RM8.50). You may choose between mutton, beef or dhall for curry. The aromatic was a little bit different with normal roti canci but the drumstick was tender.

3. Mee Sotong, Esplanade

The Padang Kota Lama aka Esplanade is next to the famous Fort Cornwallis in Penang. On one end is this foodcourt, aptly named Padang Kota Lama as well. Just opposite is the sidewalk by the sea where you can enjoy both the refreshing breeze and view. The cook doesn’t prepare each order individually but dishes out the noodles quicker by cooking in big batches. Your option here is either the wet mee rebus that comes with gravy or the dry mee goreng. Both would be heaped a generous helping of sambal sotong just prior to serving and you would need to mix it up as you eat.

4. Teochew Chendul, Penang Road

5. Ais Tingkap

The stall's bright blue signboard emblazoned with 'Ais Tingkap' isn't hard to miss. Imagine, Penangites have been savouring this sweet, refreshing beverage containing biji selasih (basil seeds), isi kelapa (coconut flesh), sirap ros (rose syrup), kelapa air (coconut water) and shaved ice for close to a century. It doesn't get any cooler than that!

Nice decor and vibe, friendly staff, and a free video game to play while you wait. Great experience, and the burgers are only about 15 ringgit each!!

A short video about us during the trip.

A One Day Trip

A trip together with your long-term brotherhood is always the best.

"True bother are never apart made in distance by never by heart."

Outfit of the day

It is being said that everyone have their on sense of style and how how they would like to dress up. As for me i don't really like much about dressing up or how i should be because to me, as long as i have to wear then i am cool with it. However to suit the theme that have been choose that was black and white *quite normal theme right* xD. These are my outfit for the day.

Just a black long short sleeve shirt that can be as jacket if you are afraid of sun or maybe the cold, this can be your out-most protection layer. On the inside is a white singlet, as i love freedom that much and we are going to sweat all day, i prefer something more relaxing and more less heat-resistant. Therefore these are my outfit choices.

As for my pants, it would be inappropriate to wear training pants to cycle around Georgetown while bringing tourist, therefore a short black light jeans pants would seal the deal. As this matches the top outfit and i prefer short pants more than longs pants as it is cooling and don't fix your movement. Next is just a normal black Sketchers sneakers to match the color and theme, as nobody would want to cycle with slippers.
*although i really wanted it :D*

Quotes of the day

Everyone has their on favorite quotes of the day right, and mine happen to be, this

"Don't judge me based the scars of my body or my story by the chapter you walk in.
If you judge people, then you have no time to love them."
That is why in life they say
"Let your smile change the world, but not the world change your smile."

Finally, let's have a little emo quotes that suits the picture ^.^

"It hurts, but it's okay, I am used to it."

Georgetown

A 1 day food trip around Penang Island

Georgetown
Today, George Town is Malaysia's most vital medical tourism hub, receiving approximately half of Malaysia's medical tourists. The city, home to numerous Malaysian and international banks, has evolved into the financial centre of northern Malaysia. In addition, George Town is logistically well-connected; the Penang International Airport to the south links it with several major regional cities, while a ferry service and the Penang Bridge connects the city with the rest of Peninsular Malaysia. The city's Swettenham Pier has also emerged as the busiest port-of-call in Malaysia for cruise shipping.

Morning

Wheeler's Coffee
Location: 67, Lorong Love, George Town, 10200 George Town, Pulau Pinang.
Bicycle-themed cafe- Wheeler's Coffee is yet another new cafe to burst on the Penang cafe scene. Interestingly, the cafe uses countless of bicycles as decorations. On the menu, it does serve some interesting dishes, however, some of them are not available throughout the day. Prices, on the other hand, are unbelievably affordable. While we like the interior decoration of the place but the orders we had were somewhat disappointing. We wondered if the meal did not go well because we did not order the right dishes but considering the cafe is still very new, it is still worth a second look. Wheeler's Coffee is located at Love Lane, opposite to Love Latte and Coffee.

Afternoon

Kapitan Restaurant
Location: 93, Chulia St, Georgetown, 10200 George Town, Penang.
The tandoori chicken came served with a fresh piece of naan, a side of sliced red onions and a wedge of lime, and with a dipping sauce of daal in one position on the tray and a green minty sauce in the other section. Although it may look a little dry from the photos – which the tandoori chicken style is always a kind of a dry style of roasted chicken – it was actually one of the most moist and flavor packed version of tandoori chicken I’ve ever had. The tandoori chicken had the perfect saltiness, with just subtle flavors of dry spices and the yoghurt marinade.

Night

Rics' Burger
Location: 28, Persiaran Mahsuri 1/2, Bayan Baru, 11900 Bayan Lepas, Pulau Pinang.
Ric’s Burger has been quite well known in Georgetown area but I did not know that they have a second branch at Bayan Lepas. Anyhow, the Orignal burger without any additional topping is just RM7.90 which is pretty reasonable although the portion is not really big but good enough for an adult lunch meal. Not only pork burger available instead they do have beef, lamb, salmon, mushroom and egg burger as well. Their french fries taste very good as well and with extra cheese or kimchi topping making it taste awesome.
